He graduated from Auburn University College of Pharmacy in 1965 and relocated to
Opp in 1968 to work at Clemon’s Drug Company. After 20 years, Presley purchased the company
and renamed it Larry’s Prescriptions, Inc. Married to Glenda Arnette Presley, Larry was the
father to David, Steven, and Neal. One of the greatest joys of his life was spending time at the
farm, with his grandchildren: Ben, Annabeth, Gehrig, Ella and Nash Presley.
Presley was a pillar in the pharmacy industry, not only in the state of Alabama, but also in the
Covington County community. He founded the Covington County Pharmacy Association and
served as its president for over 30 years. His contributions to the community earned him the
Bowl of Hygeia Award for the state of Alabama in 2017. This award, knows as the “Heisman
Trophy” of the pharmacy profession, is granted to a pharmacist who demonstrates outstanding
community service and civic leadership.
Presley’s impact extended beyond the pharmacy world. He served on the Opp City Schools
Board of Education, coached city league baseball, and was President of the Opp and Covington
County Chamber of Commerce. Larry’s personal faith played a significant role in his life. He
worshiped and served at Opp First Baptist Church for over 40 years as a deacon, Sunday school
teacher, and choir member. Presley was also involved with Crossover Ministries and many other
local organizations and charities.
Believing in the next generation, Presley mentored and provided job opportunities for aspiring
pharmacists. Although he retired in 2009, his impact is still felt in the community today. This is
evidenced by his colleagues Greg Vaughn and Merrill Culverhouse nominating him for induction.
His mentorship led many to enroll in pharmacy school and has come full circle as his son, Neal,
along with former student employee Morgan Phillips are continuing the family business. He
provided jobs for so many employees over the years, and each one of them were considered a
part of his family, and contributed greatly to the success of Larry’s Prescriptions, Inc in the past
as well as today and the future. He served the Opp area for 41 years before passing away on
October 6, 2020 due to pancreatic cancer. His legacy lives on through the many in the
community that came to look up to his humility, integrity, and leadership.

Larry DeWayne Presley was born on July 16, 1942, in Florala, Alabama to Theron and PaulinePresley.
