His early education began at Gantt Elementary, a<br \/>modest two-room school serving grades 1 through 6. During his second-grade year, his family<br \/>relocated near Fleeta School, and Davy went on to attend Opp County Elementary School<br \/>through sixth grade. He then enrolled at Bethune Junior High School in Andalusia, Alabama, for<br \/>seventh grade. After school integration in 1966, he transferred to Opp Middle School for eighth<br \/>grade and ultimately graduated from Opp High School in 1972.<br \/>While at Opp High, Davy was a standout athlete, participating in football\u2013 where he earned<br \/>honors as a running back\u2013 he also played basketball, baseball, and ran track and field.<br \/>On January 22, 1973, Davy enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years and<br \/>completing a tour of duty in Thailand from May 1975 to April 1976. In 1982, he continued his<br \/>military career by joining the U.S. Army Reserves, where he served with distinction for 22 years<br \/>until retiring in 2004. During his reserve service, he took part in training assignments in both<br \/>Korea and Germany.<br \/>In pursuit of technical expertise, Davy attended Douglas MacArthur Technical School, earning a<br \/>diploma in Industrial Electricity in 1981. He then embarked on a successful Civil Service career\u2013<br \/>working 28 years as an electrician with the Department of Public Works and 11 years as a<br \/>Supply Technician for the Fort Rucker Fire Department, retiring in 2009. Even in retirement, he<br \/>continued to contribute, working as a Receiving Clerk for Shaw Industries in Andalusia until<br \/>retiring again in 2017.<br \/>Davy has been married to his beloved wife, Shirley Lindsey, for 47 years. Together, they raised<br \/>three children\u2013 Steven Lashaun, Kristy Michelle, and Hannah Danae Lindsey\u2013 and are the<br \/>proud grandparents of nine: Ariana Brooks, Keyunna Davis, Jasmine Lindsey, Steven Elijah<br \/>Lindsey, William Davis, Bryce Davis, Evan Davis, Ryshaun Carpenter, and Aliyannah Carpenter.<br \/>He is the brother of Linda Sue Rayborn, Carolyn Walker, and Jacqueline Hilmes, and is<br \/>preceded in death by siblings Timothy Dewayne Rogers and Debbie Jean Teague. Davy is<br \/>surrounded by a large and loving extended family, including many aunts, uncles, nieces,<br \/>nephews, and close friends.<br \/>Faith has always been central to Davy\u2019s life. He served as an Elder at Abundant Life Church<br \/>and was later ordained as Pastor of Florala Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C.) in Florala,<br \/>Alabama. A natural leader, Davy also served as Secretary of the Opp Unit of the NAACP and<br \/>was elected City Councilman for the City of Opp from 2000 to 2012.<br \/>Even in retirement, Davy remains committed to serving his community. He currently serves as<br \/>Chairman of the Opp Housing Board and is the Director of the F.A.I.T.H. Program\u2013 an initiative<br \/>dedicated to supporting children ages 5-18 in academic development and community<br \/>engagement.<br \/>Davy James Lindsey\u2019s life is a testament to service, leadership, and unwavering faith. His<br \/>influence spans generations, leaving a legacy of dedication, compassion, and commitment to<br \/>his community<\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Davy James Lindsey was born on June 2, 1954, in Coffee County, Alabama, near DanleyCrossroads, to David and Rebecca Lindsey.
