Eugenia Lee Loggins was born in Montgomery on March 20, 1947, to Braxton and Sara Williams Lee, who resided in Kinston at the time. She graduated from the top of her class as Valedictorian at Opp High School in 1965. She later attended Auburn University and graduated with honors in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. In May 1978, Genie received a Juris Doctorate degree with honors from Cumberland School of Law, Samford University. Genie married Tim Loggins in September 1968, and they have one child, Katie Evans Loggins, who resides in Birmingham. 
After passing the State of Alabama Bar Association’s admission exam in February 1978, she began practicing law with her husband, Tim, under the firm name Loggins and Loggins. Genie was the first woman to practice law in Opp and Covington County. She served from 1979-1986 as Municipal Court Judge for the City of Opp; moreover, she was the first woman to serve in that position in Opp and Covington County. She received the Alabama Municipal Judge’s Association Thespian Award in recognition of her accomplishment. She and Tim served as part time assistant district attorneys from 1982-1986; in addition, Genie was the first woman to fill that position. In 1986, she was elected District Attorney for the 22nd Judicial Circuit and assumed office in January 1987. She was the first woman in the State of Alabama to be elected as a district attorney. She proudly served eighteen years, three consecutive six-year terms) until her retirement in January 2005. Her time served as district attorney, is the longest time served by any district attorney in our judicial circuit. During those eighteen years, she served on numerous statewide committees which include: Alabama Criminal Rules Committee, Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee, and Alabama Sentencing Commission Worksheet & Standards Committee. She was elected by her fellow district attorneys for seven consecutive terms to the Alabama District Attorney’s Association Executive Committee which is the association’s governing board. In 1989, Genie received the Brad Morris Memorial Award as the Alabama District Attorney of the Year given by Alabama District Attorneys and Investigations Association. After her retirement from serving as district attorney, she was a partner with The Loggins Firm, LLC from January 2005 until her retirement of practicing law on December 31, 2013. 
Genie has always shown her community support by serving on various boards and committees. She has been a member of the Opp Chamber of Commerce for at least twenty years; in conjunction, she is a former boar d member and president for the Opp Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She assisted in the planning and conducting several projects and activities in the city. Genie has been actively involved with the Opp Cultural Arts Center and has served as a board member for past three years. She generously lends her time to assist in planning activities that promote the arts such as visual arts, drama, literature, and musicals for citizens of Opp. In addition, she is a member of the Three Arts Club, a women’s service club to promote the arts and she is currently president. Genie is a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Opp where she is a trustee, administrative board member, and serves on the FUMC Leadership Committee. She has been a member of the adult choir, director of the children’s choir, director of the children’s Christmas program (three years), and numerous other committees as well as activities for the church. 
Genie has been a tireless promoter for the City of Opp for several years. She has spoken to innumerable groups and civic organizations on behalf of the citizens of Opp to encourage others to join as well as participate in the diverse opportunities and activities. Genie has been a cheerleader for Opp by encouraging people to make Opp their home. Selflessly, she has quietly and quite anonymously assisted with women and children in the midst of family traumas. Genie has given her time, talents, and her professional acumen as well as other contributions to promote and improve the city she loves. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017.
