A native of Arkadelphia, Dr. Lee is the song of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Lee. He graduated from the University of Alabama and earned his M.D. at Vanderbilt University. He interned at Hillman Hospital in Birmingham and served a residency first on Urology and Proctology and then in General Surgery. He practiced medicine at Chattahoochee Valley and Lanett from 1935-1950, when he moved to Opp where he has practiced for 28 years, a total of 43 years.
Dr. Lee is married to the former Ruby Parmer of Dothan, they have two children Mindell Lee Ayer who lives in Bonham, Texas, and Bernard Lee who lives in Auburn, Alabama.
Dr. Lee is a member of Phi Chi Medical Fraternity, the Alabama Medical Association, and the American College of Surgeons. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees at Judson College, is a member of the Board of directors at the Alabama Baptist, a member of the American Association of Railway Surgeons, is a deacon at the Opp First Baptist Church, a Shriner, a member of the Board of Directors for the First National Bank of Opp, a member of Rotary Club, has served as a Chief of Staff at Mizell Memorial Hospital, and is listed in who’s who of the South.
Dr. Lee has established a trust for Salvation Army, a Benevolent Fund, Opp First Baptist, to be used for helping indigents and needy families, has supported Partlow Institute Fund raising, and the Graceville, Florida, Bible Institute, has financially supported the Opp Boy Scout troops, and did voluntary mission work in Antigua, West Indies. The lees established the Ruby Parmer—A.B. Lee Scholarship Fund with the Baptist Foundation, the interest from the Fund each year supporting six to ten students in nursing or religious work. Dr. Kee has generously supported the Opp First Baptist Church.
Philanthropist, humanitarian, dedicated religious leader, and renowned physician, Dr. Lee has contributed to the health, happiness, and progress of mankind. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1978.
